Embracing Kobe’s heritage as a center of commercial and cultural exchange between Japan and the western world, the Kobe City Museum’s main theme is “International Culture Exchange.” Its collections reflect the rich cultural tapestry that defines Kobe. Items on display were acquired after the port opened and demonstrate how Japanese and foreign cultures have coexisted since the Meiji Era, resulting in the wonderful fusion of East and West that makes Kobe so interesting.
The museum is a pleasant place and you can easily spend a few hours meandering through the exhibition rooms. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum hosts a variety seasonal and visiting collections, so be sure to check out the Kobe Information Center for current updates.
